Torino Magazine: interview with CEO Giovanni Di Pascale

In Torino Magazine, our CEO, Giovanni Di Pascale, retraces in an in-depth interview the key milestones that have shaped Altea Green Power’s evolution and the transformation of Italy’s energy market in recent years.

From service provider to key energy transition player: the independent power producer (IPP) now looks ahead, focusing on hybrid systems, hydrogen and local sustainability.

It is no longer simply about producing energy, but about rethinking how we generate, store and integrate it into economic systems. In this complex network of technologies, capital and industrial visions, a number of companies have managed – and continue – to anticipate change. Altea Green Power is one of them. It all began in 2008 with a practical insight: building photovoltaic plants for personal needs. Demand increased, projects expanded and Altea Green Power began serving SMEs, guiding them towards energy independence when renewables were still far from today’s central role. The real turning point came in 2018: in a market still at an early stage, the company decided to scale up and structure itself to develop large projects for funds and institutional investors. This decision marked its move into a more structured industrial dimension.

Growth strengthened in 2022 with the listing on the Euronext Growth Milan segment, which enabled the Company to raise capital to accelerate development further and, two years later, the transition to the STAR segment on the main market of the Milan Stock Exchange confirmed a path of maturity and solidity. However, as CEO Giovanni Di Pascale points out, it is not only about numbers: “We are a company that has grown in economic value as well as in human capital. Today we have a young team, mostly university graduates, with an average age of 40. And 41% are women… not bad for an engineering-driven company, also considering that almost all senior roles are held by women. To date, we have 35 people in the Company“.

Meanwhile, the core business is evolving further: Altea Green Power is no longer only a project development company, but has also become a direct energy producer. A strategic shift marked by a significant milestone on 6 May, with the acquisition of 100% of a 16.75 MW photovoltaic plant in Montecchio Emilia, operational since January 2024. The transaction reinforces the Company’s positioning and gives tangible effect to the 2024-2028 Business Plan, which aims to consolidate its role as an Independent Power Producer (IPP). This transaction represents a concrete building block of the strategy we defined in the 24-28 Business PlanDi Pascale explains The acquisition of an already operational, incentivized asset with sound cash-generation prospects allows us to take a significant step in this direction. We look to the future with the aim of capturing similar opportunities, in line with our industrial vision and our commitment to creating sustainable long-term value”. The goals are clear: to reach production capacity of 90 MW by 2028 and 150 MW by 2030.

AGP’s growth, however, is above all technological. The Company is investing in the development of integrated systems, where photovoltaic energy works alongside advanced storage batteries, paving the way for hydrogen to evolve as an energy carrier. This is the rationale behind the new division dedicated to hybrid plants, designed to integrate different renewable sources and storage systems. The evolution of the global energy market places us in an increasingly complex and interconnected scenarioDi Pascale notes In this context, the integration of different forms of generation and storage is no longer optional, but a structural necessity. We have identified hybrid systems as the new frontier of energy“.

A frontier that also addresses the sectors most challenging to decarbonize, such as heavy industry and mobility. From steelmaking to chemicals and transport, the goal is to build energy ecosystems capable of supporting the transition without compromising efficiency and competitiveness. Alongside its industrial dimension, Altea Green Power’s ESG commitment is also expanding. One example is the reforestation project carried out with Consorzio Forestale Alta Valle Susa, which involves planting 16,000 trees across almost 7 hectares, in five areas affected in recent years by extreme climate events.

A long-term project, scheduled for completion by 2029. We are proud to support this project, which has significant environmental and social value. Investing in reforestation means contributing tangibly to climate change mitigation and biodiversity protection, while also giving communities accessible, high-value green spaces. This initiative marks a tangible step in our sustainability journey“.

The story of Altea Green Power shows how the energy transition goes beyond the technological challenge: it is both a cultural and industrial process. And, above all, a field on which the future of our daily lives is being shaped.
