Renewable hydrogen: MASE introduces a new support scheme

The Ministry of Environment and Energy Security has published the Decree dated 5 June 2026, introducing a new support scheme for renewable hydrogen production aimed at the industrial and transport sectors.

The message is clear: supporting renewable hydrogen production means creating the conditions needed to accelerate the decarbonization of industry and transport, while encouraging new investment in the energy transition.

The decree provides for competitive procedures managed by the GSE and makes available, for the period 2026-2029, an overall annual quota of 200,000 tonnes of renewable hydrogen production capacity. Support may be granted for a period of 15 years through a scheme designed to enhance production competitiveness.

For Italy, this marks another step toward building a renewable hydrogen supply chain, in line with the PNIEC targets and the decarbonization pathway for industry and transport.
