Solar energy: record production in EU

Record week for PV in Italy and France, but energy prices still remain high.

On 9 July, Italy reached its highest solar production ever: 161 GWh in a single day. France did even better the next day, touching 173 GWh. Important figures that confirm the increasingly central role of photovoltaics in European power generation.

Yet despite higher renewable production and falling demand (-12% in Italy versus the prior week), the Italian market continues to post the highest average prices in Europe: 108.38 €/MWh. Northern Europe, with greater flexibility and storage capacity, recorded a weekly average of just €33.54/MWh.

The contrast is clear: we generate more and consume less, yet prices remain high. This shows that generating clean energy alone is not enough – what is needed is a system capable of managing, storing, and optimizing it. Storage, digitization, flexible PPA contracts, and technology integration are key to a more resilient and competitive system.

PV alone is no longer enough. It must be part of an energy ecosystem capable of operating in balance, 24 hours a day.
